I want to install the preview of Windows 8 on my desktop computer. Couple questions:
1. Is it free?
2. How can I install it without installing over my current operating system (Windows 7)? What if I decide I don’t like Windows 8, will it uninstall like regular? How does it work?

It isn’t free, it’s just in testing. The only version available right now is the Developer’s Preview. It’s designed for computer programmers to start building applications using the new Metro UI style. It’s not meant for you to use as your primary OS and will expire and become useless eventually. Some features are missing and the rest are half-baked at best.
Some people run Windows 8 in a virtual machine using a program like Virtualbox. It won’t run as fast as it would if you installed it directly to the hard drive. It is less hassle, however. You won’t have to try and resize your current hard drive and partition a space for the new OS or anything.
You absolutely want to avoid overwriting your current OS with Windows 8.
