Java is a type of coffee bean and Java is typically an Indonesian coffee seeing as “Java” is also the name of an Indonesian island. The full name for the program is actually “JavaScript” Which was originally ‘Mocha’ changed to ‘LiveScript’ and finally later changed to ‘JavaScript’ as we know it today. Maybe the creator is Indonesian or just likes their coffee? Why the company is named after a type of coffee i do not know.

Java is a type of coffee, and thus earned coffee itself a new nickname. Sometimes people refer to regular coffee as “java”.

Its an interesting question with a long story
Java was originally named Oak, but due to a large amount of errors in it, the developers had to spend many sleepless nights fixing them. They thus re-christened it ‘Java’, after the coffee that helped them stay awake.
Plus, Sun chose it as it was cooler than other technical-sounding alternatives, like DNA or RWL.
And before you smirk, that’s why the XML guys didn’t use EML (the ‘X’ stands for ‘eXperience’).
