my mom is blind in 1 eye most of her life,we have drops for the other eye-to stop it getting any worse than it is(not related to the blind eye)she sleeps with a very bright light on every night over her,my question is-is her good eye still working to a degree while she sleeps,ie close your eye lid with the light on- theres still a brightness,so is her eye working 24/7?

She probably sleeps with a light on so that when she gets up to the bathroom, she doesn’t trip and fall over anything. She probably does this because she is already blind in one eye so needs all the light she can get to make sure she doesn’t fall. Your eyes only focus when they are open, not when you are sleeping.

Is it diabetes related? Best to check with your physician!

J B has offered you a very thoughtful answer. When your mother sleeps her eyes will be closed. It will not matter whether there is a light on in the room or not. Therefore sleeping with a light on will not diminish the vision in her ‘good’ eye. I wish you both the very best of health and in all things may God bless.
