I’ve been accepted at my local university to read a bachelor’s degree in computer science.
I’ll be buying a laptop to take with me to the lectures, but at this point im trying to decide between a laptop or a netbook. Somehow I think a netbook just wouldnt cut it for such a degree, due to the programming languages ill be using etc.
Is a netbook good enough to program with java, c# etc, or should i go for a laptop? The reason I’m asking is because money is a factor due to the high prices of books etc, so if a netbook would be enough, then that would be great ![]()
Thanks

While the netbook might be good enough, I think you would benefit from the added processing power from a normal laptop. Compiling and programming would just take longer on the underpowered netbook. Not to mention, you might run into compatibility issues with the chipsets.
Go with a laptop. You’ll appreciate the extra screen real-estate once you start poring through piles and piles of code. It’s worth the extra $200 or so to get an actual laptop instead of a netbook. Remember that a computer is an investment for your education. You need one that suits your needs and helps you become more productive, not something that might become an incompetent bother later on. A netbook would be okay as a portable secondary computer for simple tasks, but as a main system, you should have either a laptop or a desktop.
A netbook really isn’t enough because of its screen. It will be annoying to look at your code with that tiny screen. Performance wise it should be enough.
I would suggest to buy laptop
