I Told My Son He Didn’t Have To Believe His Teachers…?

By WinPie Posted in: windows

My son came home with a very one-sided story about HItler, and WWII. I had to sit him down for hours and explain so much that the teacher “left out” which was basically the entire German side of the story. (ie. she told him that NAZI’s were killers and murderers. she neglected to tell him that some of them did it because their families were in grave danger)
After we were done he asked me why his teacher didn’t tell him the rest of the story. I told him some people see things only in black and white. i told him that when someone tells him something he shouldnt believe it until he researches it for himself. i made it very clear that he cant tell the teacher she is lying or that he doesnt believe her. he should just listen and then find out for himself.
well he went to school and told his teacher she was wrong about the germans and that not all nazis were bad men. well holy hell she went off on a tangent. i went to the principals office and told him flat out that she WAS wrong. my son didnt yell or tease or try to humiliate her. he simply stated that he found out that some german nazis were forced. he was trying to teach her. i thought it was cute.
now he has to apoligize in front of the class for insubordination. i told them no effing way is he going to apoligize for doing nothing wrong.
they said he apoligizes or hes out.
do you think im right or wrong? do you think i should take this to court?

You were not wrong………How many morons do you deal with every day? By morons I mean people who believe everything someone tells them (on the radio, TV, word of mouth, etc…….) without ever bothering to research one single thing for themselves, without ever having an original thought…….? If I got a $ for every one I deal with I would never have to work again……………..They swallow propaganda like a frog swallows flies…………why do you think the Politicians get away with what they do? Everybody complains, but nobody pays attention……..How do you think the Nazi’s came to power? (Just because that is the subject that started this) I think you just did more for your son’s education that all the teachers in that private school have. You have told him to THINK FOR HIMSELF and not blindly follow others…………..GREAT JOB PARENTING, I will tag $2 on to my imaginary paycheck for the teacher and school principal……………….(I won’t even bother to tally the $’s from the responses I read on here, but there are a few I could) and as a historian I will repeat the old saying, “Those who forget the lessons of history, are doomed to repeat them…” In my experience I have found that to be true…..and most Germans were NOT NAZIS…..the Nazi Party only comprised at the most about 20% of the population……..Most were hostages, or victims………Just like here in the USA RECENTLY (and I hope when it gets to court, it gets thrown out…..otherwise people here better watch their mouths) a man did not like what Senator Mitch McConnell voted for in session, so he sent him an email…….Now he did not threaten the Senator, just told him that he thought he was an idiot and it would be a great day when he was out of office. The senator had him arrested………..just like what would have happened if someone spoke out in Nazi Germany……..They were arrested and disappeared……….How can one man fight a whole country? You can’t……………Many did resist in any way they could…..they sabotaged the Nazi war machine, spied for the allies, hid out or fed Jews……and some paid for it…….with their lives…..(Just a history lesson for those who never bothered to read a book, just swallow propaganda)

he should have kept it to himself.
i learned about the nazis and hitler and put two and two together and found out about that he should not have said it to the teacher.
although no he did say it at the right time when no one was there so fight it. (if all else fail homeschooling is an option i do pensacola Abeka online teaching)

Well, i believe your standpoint is right, however the insubordination thing is $#!t. The best thing would have been to just keep quiet and let the biased teacher keep on preaching… If you don’t like the school, you might as well take him out of it, because paying money for something you don’t like is a waste.

  4. Slinky Says

You where right to correct/educate your son on the complexity of WW2.
No you should not take it to court. You should smack your stupid child several times hard for failing to keep his mouth shut and then make him apologies.
Why because people who do not learn to keep their mouths shut get shot. See the history of WW2 or of any other repressive period for examples.

  5. avacadoc Says

i think telling him to not believe something until he researches it himself — unless you told him there are exeptions to this — wasn’t right
you shoudl give the school the example of oskar schindler (nopt sure on spelling) officially he was a nazi but he saved jews during the war.

  6. Faith4je Says

Take this to court would be useless.
Sounds like you’d be better off homeschooling your son. I say that because this seems to really bother you.

  7. Miss M Says

I think taking this to court is complete going over board and what are you trying to accomplish by this? I’m also not sure why he would bring this up to his teacher on what the two of you discussed. It sounds like you were really pushing the issue with him about the “other side.” Why was it necessary that he bring this up to his teacher? It sounds like you have the issue with what he was taught and now your son is the one being punished.
Let me also say, I am not a fan of private schools, I think they are very closed minded when it comes to teaching as opposed to a public school. I’m not sure the quality of material that a child is learning is any better then in a public school it all depends on the teacher. I also think that its a little severe for them to kick him out for not apologizing, but it doesn’t surprise as this is a private school.

  8. Crying tears of geek joy. Says

Why the Hell would you waste the already underfunded public schools to court just because you don’t think all nazi’s were bad.
I mean, just because someone killed and murdered massive amounts of people because “their families were in grave danger” (your words, NOT mine) doesn’t change the fact that they were murderous killers who protected their families instead of 11 million people (the body count of ALL who died in concentration camps et al.)
You could have taken this as an amazing lesson to teach your son that sometimes people say things we do not agree with but it isn’t always wise to do something about it (Just like your friends the Nazi’s who were doing nothing more than protecting their families)
Instead, you AND your son look like fools and now you want to sue over it.
    Good job, Mom!

  9. Rachel Says

I don’t know if you’re starting in on a very good lesson, to be honest.
Why not let him read a book or two? Sugar coating the Nazis might not be the best thing.
You flat out told him not to believe everything teachers say, so where will this lead next?
I believe in giving your child morals, values, and the knowledge of right and wrong and WHEN a teacher goes against any of those, THEN they can question.
Like a high school sub. teacher I once had who cursed and made very dirty jokes. I chose not to listen to anything he said, because he wasn’t relevant to me at that point.
But somebody who is just trying to teach the curriculum?
I agree it’s good to learn more for yourself if you’re confused or feel there’s more to know on the subject, but don’t tell him to ignore the authority here.

  10. mALiSSa[<3′s hunger games Says

he shouldn’t have to apologize my teacher told me the same thing and they are wrong about this fact
don’t make him apologize its wrong he said it politely and the teacher just doesn’t listen
your paying for this school they’re wrong they should apologize i don’t want to tell you weather or not to go to court i agree with the home schooling answer im home schooled know [i hated public school too many distractions and o just hated it] i am skipping grades and doign great! totaly recomend it

  11. eммy and ѕтepнy l.a ĸιngѕ pυcĸвυ Says

It’s not like the teachers really chose what to teach. They have a certain thing to teach and that’s all they can teach. So it’s not the teachers fault for any of this. She is the teacher who has the curriculum , not you. Your son could have told her privately or should have keep his mouth shut. You are wrong. If he had a debate with the teacher that’s okay but flat out saying your wrong isn’t true she isn’t. The Nazi’s were bad people. Not alot were forced to do it. A small margin were.

  12. Anonymous Says

Your right, your son did not humiliate her, there is no way he should be punished for that. He just clearly stated that not all of them were bad. This woman has a problem, she should not have gone off like that. I know for a fact that some Nazi’s were nice people, some would let the Jew’s out of the concentration camps or help give food, clothing etc. to those poor families. :( People need to understand that not everyone was bad in bad situations, many of them didn’t want to work for Hitler, and planned to kill him on several accounts. No, I don’t agree with what happened during WWII, I think Hitler deserves to burn in hell, and those who helped kill all those people. Take it to court, I could care less, but if you disagree so much I don’t think you should have your son in that school. But, I’m pretty sure you can do something about that teacher. :)

  13. ©@$h Says

teachers think they always right and they also have a personal view 2. that is his opinion that has to differ from the teachers. everyone has different opinions. the germans was just like any other army that is neither good or bad that fight for there country. everyone can be bad no one is perfect. they all killed people and god said thou shall not kill. so they all done a sin . in german schools they probably teaching the engilsh and americans was bad. that teacher was stereotyping when most of them soldiers have repented for there ways now and have changed and the others died but wud have done the same. no one is good or bad people are for ever-changing we are dynamic and random.

  14. linda101 Says

your son is obviously in a government school. He will also be taught other things that are totally one sided. get used to it or pay for private school or home school.
A lawsuit will cost you more and dealing with the school will only frustrate you when they try to make you feel like an idiot or biggot just because you disagree with them.
