I am in the market for a new computer. Either a laptop or a desktop, it does not matter to me. I just want the best quality for my money. I am a student and need to have PowerPoint, Word, Excel, all those student programs. I also want to be able to download music without my computer slowing down…so I guess I would need anti virus? Let me know what you think! All help is appreciated

If you want a fast computer, look for something with a large processor (GHz). As for the student programs, you may want to know that there is a program called OpenOffice.org which is a free version of microsoft’s powerpoint, word, excel, ect. One problem with this may be that it saves in Open Office files, so you’ll have to convert it to word documents yourself.

Your needs are pretty basic, like 90% of the population, just go with the following specs :
Dual core cpu
4GB memory
250GB for laptop or 500GB for desktop as a minimum
Windows 7 64bit
Office 2003 or 2007 or 2010 (I prefer 2003)
the rest are very standard
