Did God Inspire Every Word Of The Bible Or Did People Just Have Some Vague Idea Of What He Says?

Why did god not know that the earth rotates?
Why does the bible say god stopped the sun in the sky?
Joshua 10:13 And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies.

“When one reads Bibles, one is less surprised at what the Deity knows than at what He doesn’t know.”

That depends on which parts, The instructions are Gods holy words, the prophecies were inspired by God, and the accounts were written by prophets who were divinely inspired with prophecies and also witnessed said events..
Basically the Bible is a mixture of divinely inspired and prophesied and witnessed accountable works of prophets..

Sigh….. Once again…. The Bible is not a history book, a science book nor a sociology book. Its truth is in is message. It is the “Inspired Word of God”; the “inspired wordS of God”. The ONLY ones who believe that every word is absolute truth are just fundamentalists who, although extremely vocal, represent only a small portion of Christianity.

2 Timothy 3:16, 17  16All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness, 17that the man of God may be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work.

The only inspiration was people writing what they thought would sell and hopefully control the masses. Their thoughts were based upon fables, stories and what they believes at the time. Some details are just not factual, and some do not make sense. If there was some direct Divine inspiration, I think it would not have the errors and inconsistencies that it does have.

I am Catholic. I have been all of my life. I also think that large sections of the Bible are complete and utter bullsh*t. The creation story is just not real. The earth was clearly not created in 7 days. This was a story invented at the time the Bible was written in order to make sense of how man came to be on the earth. And of course, if there is a God, he knows that the Earth rotates and revolves around the sun. Haven’t you ever heard that God is all-knowing.
And clearly the sun did not stop in the sky. That’s just not possible. The end. I mean maybe there was a solar eclipse, but that wouldn’t mean the sun “stopped,” it would mean that the sun disappeared for a little bit.
And to answer your initial question, people were putting down their own beliefs in the Bible. If there is a God, I guess you could say that he inspired them to write that stuff, but really, I think that the Bible, (as were the texts for most religions in my opinion) was written by people on lots of drugs.
This is not to say that Jesus didn’t exist or wasn’t crucified or anything, but I think lots of the Bible is very highly embellished and historically inaccurate. Take everything it says with a grain of salt.

All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching the truth, rebuking error, correcting faults, and giving instruction for right living,
so that the person who serves God may be fully qualified and equipped to do every kind of good deed. 2 Timothy 3:16-17

    god inspired it
Why did god not know that the earth rotates?
    he does know
it was men writing that the sun and moon stayed in their place until the battle was won.
we use that type of language all the time
read the weather news or listen to it and you here the sun will rise or set at such and such a time.
we know the sun does not rise or set but we use those terms to tell when we will see the sun appear and disappear from our sight because of the rotation of the earth.
your example fails to cast doubt on god and the bible being his word

As a Christian, I’d have to say that much of the Bible is directly inspired by God, but not all. Some of it is the writing of men who had a special relationship with God and recorded what they could about that relationship. But they were influenced by their culture and personal beliefs, and they did get some things wrong. I believe that most of them were trying to be honest as best they could about what God said to them and what God wanted for his people, but there are too many things that are just wrong.
Should we celebrate when “God’s people” violently conquer others? Does God “destroy” the wicked or “hate” wicked people? What is the fair price that I should receive if I sell my daughters into slavery? Were Ham’s children and children’s children really cursed because of the father’s sin?
We all pick and choose the scriptures we abide by. Those of us honestly seeking God’s will use the Holy Spirit in that process.
Remember, Peter had a vision in which he was told to ignore scripture for the cause of Christ. Scripture taught that he should not eat or drink certain foods or follow certain foreign practices, but in order for Peter to be an effective witness in other countries, that scripture was set aside by the Holy Spirit.
Christ himself permitted his disciples to violate scripture and gather grain on the Sabbath. Why? Because the law and other institutions are less important to God then people are. That principal can be extended to marriage and divorce. Paul’s teachings on divorce are just wrong for today. They reflected his personal view that Christ was returning almost immediately, and also reflected the primary task at hand, which was to spread the gospel to other countries and cultures. But if my spouse leaves me for something other then adultery, if I give reconciliation every possible chance and still end up divorced, am I really condemned to a life of loneliness?
ALL scripture should be examined in the light of the cross of Christ. The cross of Christ is the finest example humble servant love known to man and most truly reveals to us the nature of God. If the scripture shows God’s nature to be like that of Christ, then it is holy and quite possibly directly inspired. If the scripture shows God’s nature to be opposed to that of the humble servant, then it is not.
Should homosexuals be welcomed into the church? I believe that just like with Peter, the Holy Spirit is calling all Christians today to set aside certain culturally influenced statements of Paul and extend the love of the cross to homosexuals.

The big ‘magic’ book was inspired by a bunch of ignorant goat herders and re-editted many times over the years afterwards with parts being added and removed.
Erm god probably doesn’t exist and even if he does im sure he doesnt resemble the crazy god of the big magic book.

    If you:
    a) have faith in the allmighty
    and
    b) can think for yourself
you can only conclude that the answer is a bit of both.

  12. THE NEXT LEVEL Says

Inspiration means to get an idea from which to write. But then the writer ends up using his own understanding. The sun stopping could have been them being on the axis point of an Earth shift.
