Am I proud ? Not really. I’m also not particularly ashamed.
Thanks for posting these Darwin Awards. Anyone who liked these should go on line and find more. There are hundreds of them and they’re usually pretty funny.
I think Darwin Awards should be required reading for school kids.

Not all of these are Darwins or even Honorable Mentions. #3 is not because I doubt anyone thinks they’re going to get shot for taking someone’s parking place. #4 was stupidity on the part of many people. #6, #8, and #9 are dumb criminals but nothing life-threatening.

My advice is: you are right, there is no point paying a lawyer for something so trivial as this. If you insist on contesting it, go to court and argue your case calmly. Personally, I would just take the points and the fine. The fine you get from a court will be higher than an on-the-spot penalty, and it is only really a major issue to you if you are a serial collector of penalty points. The points will be off before too long.
And you can indeed be booked for anything the police deem to be impairing your ability to maintain control of the vehicle. If you are looking for someone to say “Go to court and you will win”, then I doubt you will find that answer here, and if you do, it will most likely prove to be wrong in the end. It is a trivial matter. Don’t let it bother you.
If you knew some driver had killed someone because he was on the phone, you’d be saying “where were the police? If only they had caught him BEFORE the event!”
