My daughter is 7 months and 21 pounds. I know that soon she will be too big for the car seat she has now. She is definately the size of a 18 month old. I was looking at this one: http://www.target.com/Graco-Nautilus-3-C…
I remember hearing that the baby should be a year old before facing forward in a car seat. Like I said she’s already the size of an 18 month old and she’s as tall as my 2 year old niece. Is she ready for the next car seat? Should I face her forward?

Our car seat says 20 pounds AND 1 year old. You have to wait until they reach both before you can move them forward.
Maybe buy one that can be backward and forward facing. That is what we have. It works great, and my son can stay in it until he is 40+ pounds.
Legally she must be rear facing until she is both 20lbs AND 1 yr old. Just bc she is the size of an 18 month old doesn’t mean her neck is strong enough to withstand a head on car accident.
No, she is not ready to face forward. Get a convertible that rear-faces to around 35 lbs and keep her rear-facing as long as possible. Rear-facing is the absolute safest. My boys rear-faced to well past 2 years, and my 18 month old is currently rear-facing. Just because she is the size of an 18 month old, does not mean she is developmentally ready for forward facing, and even most 18 month olds are not developmentally ready for forward facing.http://www.cpsafety.com/articles/StayRea…
That seat doesn’t rear face. You need a convertible seat that can rear face until she’s a year old and 20 lbs. And that is the minimum requirements. The longer she rear faces the better.
Yes, she’s ready for a convertible car seat. No, you shouldn’t face her forward. The law states one year AND 20 lbs. My son will be extended rear facing for as long as possible and he’s almost 10 months and 21 lbs.
I agree with Haruhi. Rear facing is best. Buy a bigger seat that rear faces. Do not risk your child’s safety. Guidelines are set as MINIMUMS. Do not let MINIMUM be the standard for your child. Life is too precious.
We don’t need the media to tell us how to do everything. This is a common sense situation. If she is to big for her current seat, then yes. 21 pounds at 7 months, wow that’s kinda unhealthy.
